Coming off the shelves.
If you’re a fan of my self-published work, I suggest you get your hands on that material soon, as it’s going away. Not forever, nor necessarily tomorrow, but soon and for a good, long while.
The reasons for this are varied, but they boil largely down to the fact that I’m not necessarily thrilled with the editing work done on them. It’s my fault that they exist in the form they do now, because I was happy with their edits. However, having had such a positive experience with Betimes Books during the editing of The Guilty has convinced me that I settled too much, and the books are poorer for that choice.
What will happen? Nothing that will affect you too much, unless you’re one of those people who have yet to purchase something you’ve been circling for a while. Don’t let me discourage you from grabbing something that interests you. It could be as long as a year or two before that book comes back in any form, so decide if that’s a wait you want to make.
When they do come back, they will probably not be rereleased on Amazon, except as part of a larger publishing endeavor. I’ve been tied to Amazon for far too long, and too many colleagues are seeing results (and great freedom) turning that site into only a part of a broader strategy. Sales aren’t the consideration here, but rather the desire to be freed from a site with a lot to dislike.
More soon.
