Games people play.
I’ve mentioned before that I like to play tabletop roleplaying games. While I was out of the loop for an extended period after the d20 boom of the early 2000s, I’ve been back for several years now, doing what I used to do for hours at a stretch, twice or even three times a week.
Inspiration for my games, which consist primarily of one-shots, comes at different times. Yesterday, for example, I wrote a one-shot scenario for GURPS Horror after fawning over Sideshow Collectibles’ amazing Frankenstein’s Monster.
This is what the ad looks like:
From the windswept towers of a cursed castle… from the pages of forbidden science… comes a tale of love, death, and something far worse.
This Halloween, journey to Schwarztal, where a grieving bride awaits her groom… a man torn from the grave, stitched with secrets, and driven by a monstrous heart.
The vows are written.
The altar is ready.
But some unions should never be blessed.
THE DEVIL’S BRIDE
Life. Love. Legacy. At any cost.
I recently filled a Wushu one-shot, and a short campaign called Ghost in the Ruins, about Soviet snipers during the Battle of Stalingrad. Those should both be fun, especially with the right players.
Creation doesn’t always have to be something you can sell. Sometimes, creation can (and should) be something you do simply for the joy of it. Money is good, and often necessary, but it doesn’t beat the satisfaction of creating something worthwhile.
